Sarah Dearie is a native of New Orleans, La. She is a graduate of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts and a holds a B.F.A. in sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute. In 1999 she traveled to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil which she immediately adopted as her second home. The African cultural presence in Salvador and New Orleans provides great inspiration for her work. She lives in New Orleans with her husband and four children and teaches Visual Art at Audubon Charter School. In 2014 she founded the Brazilian style carnival group Bloco Sereia.
